Have you ever wanted to know how to send large files online? I did a couple of times, but often the solution was to upload my files to a web site which allows you to tranffer modest sizes, since I had to send nothing more than 100MB to friends.

Well, this time was a little bit different, I needed to send 870MB. For a few months now, I’ve been using  Ubuntu 9.04 Linux distribution and back in the time when I was using Windows XP, I used to send files frequently through Yahoo Messenger! and got the job done but right now for Ubuntu there’s no Yahoo! client for messaging that actually work with large files. Pidgin, for example is a very good Linux instant messaging client but very poorly developed when it comes to tranffer files online.

So, I got the problem solved with Transferbigfiles.com. The service is beta, as in testing. It gives me the ability to upload 1GB worth of stuff and then send a link to a friend’s e-mail. There is a downside though of this service: the uploaded file’s lifetime is just 5 days or the equivalent of 20 downloads. After that, it’s gone and they don’t have Premium plans. But it’s good for transferring big files online temporarly. Especially if you would like to send big files on Linux or any other operating system, like me.
