It has come to my attention these days that I in my Yahoo! Mail account I haven’t seen anywhere a button where I can delete my Yahoo! Mail account. Either the account is still running on Yahoo! Mail Classic or the new improved version All-new Yahoo! Mail there should be a DELETE button.
I’ve searched through My Profile, Settings, Mail options, nothing. So I had to digg further. It gets quite confusing you know, because ever since Yahoo! started changing their home page design they probably also making changes in the Help section because at some point I started seeing myself on pages which led nowhere, just a bunch of missleading links. Eventually I ended up on a page where there was a search input. Of course, the new Yahoo! search suggestion technology started kicking in, suggesting me the “delete account” keywords. Finally, I found the page where you can easily DELETE your Yahoo! Mail account, here you are.
What else do you need to know?
The Yahoo! PrIvacy Policy says that once you ask Yahoo! to delete your account, in most cases the first step is the deactivation of the Yahoo! account, the actual data of your account being deleted in approximately 90 days and this entire operation is ireversibile.
You’ve lost it for good but not actually because in the policy are also mentioned “log files”. In these files are stored all of your Yahoo! related account activity for the purpose of analysis, auditing, research etc. So the interesting conclusion is that Yahoo! gets to keep all of your information even if you’ve asked them to delete anything related to your Yahoo! account, but instead it’s still out there on a server you just won’t be able to access it.
